- Water contains following contaminants : (a) positive ions - Calcium, Magnesium, Natrium, Kalium, (b) negative ions - Bicarbonate, Sulfuric Acid, Chloride, and (c) others - Silica, Iron
- The less water contains these dissolved contaminants, the more suitable it is as boiler water. Especially, boiler water should contain less Calcium, Magnesium and Silica.
- To remove dissolved contaminants, feed a certain amount of water treatment.

-
- It creates scales in pipes, which shorten the product life and cause inefficiency of the boiler.
Note: What is the boiler scale?
Scale accumulation can cause degradation of boiler efficiency and damage to the heat surface area due to overheat. As the steel strength is weakened at around 350℃, and in particular, as heat transfer load of water tube boilers is larger, little amount of scale may cause serious damage due to heat insulation by scale.
- Thermal conductivity is lowered by scales, which may cause damage to tube due to overheating.
- It shortens the product life due to smoke tube corrosion and cause safety accidents.
- It cause steam pipe corrosion and aging of machine due to boiler carryover.
Note:What is boiler carryover?
It is the problem causing deterioration of the product quality and corrosion of the superheater and other steam components when contaminants dissolved or suspended in the boiler water and moisture along with steam are transferred to steam system and lower the degree of steam purity.
- It creates scales in pipes, which shorten the product life and cause inefficiency of the boiler.

-
- Install water softener device to completely remove components such as calcium and magnesium.
- Use the appropriate boiler compound to discharge silica that can't be removed by water softner device by turning it into the soluble sodium silicate.
- Make sure to use purified water by micro filter and to treat drain water properly, as floating materials like dirt or dust that flow into industrial water or underground water can't be treated by chemicals or water softener device.

- Corrosion caused by pH
- Corrosion caused by dissolved oxygen
- Corrosion caused by Chloride

-
- Corrosion caused by pH Depending on pH of water, its acidity is decided.Arial Most water is neutral, which means its pH is between 6~8.Arial Water is considered acid if its pH is between 1~5, and alkaly if pH 9~14.Arial Corrosion is minimized when the pH of water is between 11~11.8.
- Corrosion caused by dissolved oxygen Oxygen contained in air is dissolved in water used in the boiler. Boiler water not resolving dissolved oxygen causes corrosion when contacting iron.
- Corrosion caused by Chloride Though people may not notice, Chloride is dissolved in the water. It causes corrosion of smoke tubes of the boiler.

-
- Prevention of corrosion caused by pH Adjust the amount of water treatment fed into the boiler to maintain pH of water between 11~11.8.
- Prevention of corrosion caused by dissolved oxygen Feeding water treatment can prevent corrosion by dissolved oxygen because oxygen scavenger contained in boiler compound resolves dissolved oxygen.
- Prevention of corrosion caused by Chloride During or after the operation, perform bottom blow in order that Chloride does not accumulate once in every eight hours of operation. When performing bottom blow, do until low water level alarm sounds.
